Insurance Effects

Traffic Violations and Car Insurance

Drivers who are convicted of traffic violations will be charged higher insurance premiums.

Insurance Points are held against each driver for convictions and at-fault accidents occurring during the three years prior to their insurance renewal date.

A driver may be assigned insurance points for the following actions:

  • Racing

  • Hit and run

  • Driving While Impaired

  • Speeding

  • Driving without a license or registration

  • Driving with a suspended license or registration

  • Reckless driving

  • Passing a stopped school bus

  • Certain at-fault accidents

  • Other moving violations

This list is not comprehensive and does not provide the insurance points associated with each violation. It is important to contact an attorney to determine the severity of your violation and the proper course of action.

Insurance points can increase your premiums from 25-450%!
