What If I Am Injured at Work?

Raleigh, NC Workers' Compensation Attorneys on What to Do in the Event of an On the Job Injury

If you are injured while you are at work or while you are doing your job, there are some steps you should take to protect yourself and ensure you are compensated for any lost wages due to missed work or permanent injuries.

  • Immediately report the injury to your supervisor.
  • Take pictures of the area and any equipment you were using when you were injured.
  • Check your employee handbook and make sure you follow any procedures required by your employer if you’ve been in a work related accident
  • Get the names and telephone numbers of anyone who witnessed your accident.  Ask him or her what happened and what he or she saw.  Write down what they say and ask them to sign and date it right away.
  • Take pictures of your injuries either yourself or, even better, have someone else do it.
  • Keep a log or diary of how you are feeling, when your appointments are, and of the work you are missing.  Keep track of what it hurts to do and when your pain feels better or worse.
  • Follow up with all recommended medical treatment.
  • Call an attorney as soon as possible to help you fill in any forms or to give a recorded statement to your company’s insurance agent.
