False Reports of Buying Bleach at Night:
Actual Harris Teeter Receipts and Surveillance Video
A rumor began at the first press conference that Cary Police held to answer questions about the investigation into the Nancy Cooper case. A Canadian journalist asked whether Brad had bought bleach at 4:00 in the morning prior to his wife's disappearance. At that time, Chief Bazemore neither confirmed nor denied that it had happened. Volumes of suspicion have grown out of this question. Though Brad has provided sworn affidavits explaining when and why he went to Harris Teeter, as well as what he actually purchased, his statements have been questioned and their truth openly challenged. As a result, many have openly wondered whether Brad was responsible for Nancy's death. Some in Jessica Adam's Cary Clique have boldly sworn that they believe he is guilty. We cannot allow the slanderous assertions against Brad Cooper to continue without redress. We can now show definitively that there was NO truth to the rumor.
As is clear from Brad's affidavit, he and Nancy awakened shortly after 4:00 a.m. He did not go to the store until after 6:00 a.m.
To set the record straight and diminish the mounting baseless prejudice against him, we are posting the actual Harris Teeter surveillance videos from the morning of July 12, 2008. These were Brad's only trips to any store that morning.
First trip to the store at 6:22 am
Second trip to the store at 6:41 am
What is clear from these images is that Brad Cooper went to Harris Teeter in daylight hours. He did not purchase bleach. He went twice. First, he went at 6:22 a.m. to purchase milk for his 2 year old, Katie, because the Coopers were out of milk at home and Katie would not calm down without it. The second time Brad went was at 6:42 a.m. to purchase Tide laundry detergent. Immediately prior to entering the store the second time, Brad answered a call from Nancy. Bella, their 4 year old, needed juice. As a result, during the second trip to Harris Teeter, Brad bought not only Tide laundry detergent but also Green Machine Naked Juice for his daughter. It bears mentioning that the Tide detergent did not contain any bleach at all. Those were the only items that Brad purchased. Scans of the records from both the Harris Teeter transactions are posted below.
